Scotland
The Scottish Highlands, one of the last unspoilt wild places in Europe, attract a large number of tourists. That said, there are still places to be explored in peace, and it's relatively easy to escape the so-called 'civilization'. In 1996 and 1998 I spent a total of five weeks exploring parts of the Central- and Northwest Highlands, the Isle of Skye and the Western Isles.
