About 50 km north of Ghat lies the Jabal Idinen, the 'mountain of spirits' (far right). For years, the local Touareg refused to guide anyone to this mountain with its cliff faces rising steep out of a tumble of rock, because the Jabal Idinen was feared as the home of maleficent beings.
